Unit I

• Drugs’ solubility – expressions of solubility, mechanisms of interactions between solute and solvent Ideal parameters for solubility, Solvation, and Association, a quantitative study of the elements that affect the solubility of drugs diffusion mechanisms of a biological system. Solubility of gas in liquids the solubility and permeability of liquids in liquids (Binary solutions Ideal solutions) Raoult’s law, actual solutions. Critical Solution Temperature, partially miscible liquids, and their applications. Law of distribution, the limitations, and their applications

Unit 2

• States of matter and the properties of Matter – State of Matter and modifications in matter’s state, heat-latent sublimation critical point, eutectic mixed gas, aerosols, and inhalers liquid crystals, liquid complexes and glassy states, solid crystals, amorphous and polymorphism.
• Physical characteristics of drug molecules – Refractive index, optical rotation, and dielectric constant dissociation and dipole moments determinations, and their applications

Unit 3

• Interfacial and surface phenomenon – Liquid interface, surface, and interfacial tensions, surface free energy measurement of surface and interfacial tensions. Spreading coefficient, adsorption at interfaces between liquids Surface-active substances, the HLB Scale detergency, solubilization, Adsorption at the solid interfaces.

Unit 4

• Complexation and binding to proteins – Introduction and classification of Complexation, Applications, methods for study, analysis of protein binding complexation and drug action crystal structures of complexes, and the thermodynamic treatment of stability constants.

Unit 5

• PH, buffers, as well as Isotonic solutions – Sorensen’s pH scale measurement of pH (electrometric as well as calorimetric) applications of buffers. equations, buffer capacity buffers in pharmaceutical and biological processes, and buffered Isotonic solutions.
