Unit I

• Stereoisomerism & Optical isomerism – optical activity, enantiomers, Di-stereoisomerism, Meso compound elements that exhibit symmetry, and the achiral molecules DL nomenclature system for optical isomers. Sequence laws, and the RS systems of nomenclature for optical isomers. Chemical reactions of chiral molecules. Racemic modification and determination of racemic mix. Asymmetric synthesis: partial and absolute.

Unit 2

• Geometrical isomerism A nomenclature that describes geometrical isomers (Cis Trans, EZ, Syn Anti systems) Methods to determine the geometry of geometrical isomers. Isometry in conformational forms in Ethane, n, and Cyclohexane. The stereoisomerism of biphenyl compound (Atropoisomeric) and conditions for optical activity. Stereoselective and stereospecific reactions.

Unit 3

• Heterocyclic compounds – Nomenclature & classification Synthesis, reactions & medicinal uses of following compounds/derivatives Pyrrole, Furan, & Thiophene Relative aromaticity & reactivity of Pyrrole, Furan, & Thiophene.

Unit 4
